L'Aquila and "Perdonanza Celestiniana"

If you're a sinner this is the right place for you :-) . Once a year the plenary indulgence in l'Aquila gives all sinners the opportunity to wipe themselves clean of damnation and start afresh on their quest for spiritual salvation.
The papal document which attests to the spiritual validity of this spring cleaning of the soul is transported, every year on the 28 August, from its resting place in Piazza Palazzo to Collemaggio.

The document is read out, the sacred doors of the cathedral are opened and the repentant masses are allowed into the church to cleanse themselves of sin.

S.Pio di Fontecchio

The small village of S. Pio di Fontecchio lies in Abruzzo, near L’Aquila.
Founded in the Middle Age, it kept unchanged its layout in the course of the centuries: small stone houses connected by arches, crossed by narrow cobbled lanes in paving, enjoying its precious tranquillity away from mass tourism.

It is the ideal starting point to discover the green heart of the Sirente Velino Natural Park.
